Nurse's News
Hello! I have been a nurse for over 19 years, primarily in the INOVA Loudoun Hospital Emergency Department. Originally from State College, PA, home of the PSU Nittany Lions, I have lived in Northern Virginia for 14 years. I am at MMS everyday, feel free to stop in to say hello or if you have any medical concerns regarding your child.

End of Year Message
It has been a busy year for the clinic! Here are a few things to keep in mind as the school year comes to an end.

MEDICATIONS
I ask that you make plans to pick up all of your studentís medications from the clinic no later than Thursday, June 16.. Medication that has not been picked up will be disposed of. A new medication form is required each year as well as a new bottle of over the counter medication.

As your child grows and matures, it is important that they begin to take responsibility for their emergency inhalers and epi pens. If you feel that your child is ready to assume this task, please provide me with a completed Asthma Action Plan or Allergy Action Plan completed and signed by both you and your doctor at the start of the school year. It is necessary that the sections of the form that state the student can self-carry are completely filled out and signed by the doctor.

There are advantages of having the self-carry portion of the forms signed by your doctor even if your child is going to leave them in the clinic:

  1. During field trips the emergency inhaler/epi pen will be with your child at all times.
  2. During after school activities your student will be able to have the emergency medication with them.
Should you feel that it is not the right time for your child to carry their own inhaler or epi pen, I am happy to keep them in the clinic with the appropriate completed forms.

Tdap
All sixth graders are required to have a Tetanus, Diptheria, Pertussis (Tdap) booster shot to start school on August 31, 2015. Immunization documentation may be submitted to Marsteller Middle School Monday Friday, 8am - 4pm or faxed to 703 530-6327.

HEALTH TREATMENT PLANS REQUIRED
Each School year a new HEALTH TREATMENT PLAN is required by Prince William County Schools for every student with a medical condition which may necessitate treatment at school.

Health Treatment Plans for ASTHMA (Reg 757-5), (Fillable form), SEVERE ALLERGIES (Reg 757-2), DIABETES (Reg 757-6), SEIZURES (Reg 757-7) and OTHER PROCEDURES or EMERGENCY health treatments (Reg 757-3) may be located and printed by clicking on the health condition's regulation number.

To facilitate a positive transition to the new school year, you and your health care provider must complete and sign the corresponding health treatment plan before treatment is implemented at school. Please deliver or fax the completed Health Treatment Plan to Marsteller Middle School between 8 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Thank you for your cooperation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions regarding your studentís health.
